Idea no. 23

A brainstorming note in southern Sweden becomes a new flooring category.

    Exhibit 01 — 1977

    Idea no. 23

Pergo’s official history says the Idé-77 committee at Perstorp develops the concept of laminate flooring during a brainstorming session. The proposal is Idea no. 23.

  2. Exhibit 02 — 1980

    GL80 reaches the floor

The first laminate flooring, Perstorp Golv GL80, is sold in Sweden.

  3. Exhibit 03 — 1989

    Perstorp Golv becomes Pergo

A naming competition produces Pergo — an acronym of Perstorp Golv, or Perstorp Flooring.

  4. Exhibit 04 — 1995

    Scratch resistance and the Swan

Pergo dates its scratch-resistance innovation later marketed as TitanX to 1995. The same year, it says it becomes the first floor manufacturer to receive the Nordic Swan for a floor.

  5. Exhibit 05 — 2001

    The joint clicks

Pergo introduces patented click-joint locking technology along with embossed decorated boards featuring matching realistic surface textures.

  6. Exhibit 06 — 2011

    Beyond laminate

Pergo launches Vinyl Planks & Tiles, extending the brand into another flooring category.

    Floors for real life

Pergo enters wood flooring and adopts the brand line “Floors for real life.” Pergo now describes itself as a Unilin brand.

The selected Outlast+ specimen is laminate: a wood-look décor over high-density fiberboard construction, not a solid-wood wear layer. Move among real stocked finishes to compare color, grain density, and plank character.

Official Pergo imageryOutlast+ is the product-specific story here: Pergo describes it as waterproof and resistant to dents, scratches, stains, and spills. Other collections carry different protection and warranty terms.

Spill

Keep the claim with the line

Pergo says SpillProtect technology keeps spills and liquids on the surface of Outlast+ floors.

Joint

The system includes the edge

For qualifying Pro+ products, Pergo says WetProtect combines a waterproof finish with water-tight joints. Warranty terms govern.

Label

Not every Pergo is waterproof

The stocked XP Classic Auburn Oak example is explicitly listed with no water protection. Choose by SKU, not by brand name alone.
